Doncaster Rovers captain Owen Bailey is targeting another memorable performance at Mansfield Town this weekend as he closes in on a club record that has stood since 1951.
Rovers travel to One Call Stadium on Saturday 15 August for their League One campaign opener (3pm kick-off), looking to build on their Carabao Cup victory over Stockport County on penalties last Saturday. A sold-out away end will back the team for the trip to Nottinghamshire.
Bailey's Mansfield memories
Bailey scored twice in a comeback win against Mansfield Town in August 2025, with his second goal arriving in the sixth minute of stoppage time. The 27-year-old is keen to create similar moments this time.
"It was an amazing day, I remember it very well, it is probably one of my best days in a Rovers shirt," Bailey said. "It was a special day, one that me and my family still talk about. I'm really looking forward to that and hopefully we can replicate some similar scenes. We're really looking forward to it, but we know it's going to be a tough challenge going there."
Bailey acknowledged Mansfield's strength under manager Nigel Clough. "They are a really good side and have some great players. We've done our preparation and watched a bit of them, so we know that it will be a test for us."
Record-breaking milestone
Bailey could equal Bert Tindall's consecutive league appearance record if selected against Mansfield. The skipper has started every league game since joining Rovers in summer 2023, totalling 138 appearances. One more would match Tindall's mark, which has stood for 75 years.
"It would be a massive achievement for me and it would mean a lot if it happens," Bailey said. "I pride myself on being available every week, playing regularly and putting my body on the line for the team. To have done that for consecutive games is something that makes me really proud and says a lot about the type of player I want to be."
