Doncaster Belles secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Handsworth Ladies in the League Cup, following their disappointment in the FA Cup the previous week.
Ellie Ball opened the scoring in the first half, giving the Belles a narrow advantage at the break. Manager Lee Mitchell's side emerged with greater intensity after half-time, converting their dominance into goals.
First Half: Evenly Matched Until Ball's Breakthrough
Handsworth posed an early threat, testing goalkeeper Scarlette Slater-Rowley with a shot on target in the opening ten minutes and forcing another save in the 23rd minute. The Belles remained defensively organised throughout, winning two corners in quick succession as they pressed forward.
Ball's strike gave Doncaster Belles the platform they needed going into the dressing room with a 1-0 lead.
Second Half: Belles Turn Up the Pressure
The Belles fired from range in the 52nd minute, with Tiana Hicks attempting to double the lead in the 56th minute. Their attacking intent became increasingly clear as pressure mounted on the Handsworth defence.
Charlotte Gowlett scored twice in quick succession, her goals coming during a strong spell of link-up play involving Hicks. Jex-Oldfield added a fourth goal in the dying moments to seal an emphatic finish.
