Doncaster Rovers claimed their third consecutive win with a 1-0 victory over Burton Albion at Club Doncaster Sports Village. Leon Ayinde's first-half goal, scored in added time before the break, proved decisive as Rovers dominated possession throughout the match.

Rovers made five changes from their midweek Jersey Mike's Trophy win against Liverpool U21, with Tommy Simkin, Jay McGrath and Alfie May returning to the starting line-up. Seán Grehan and Ayinde featured following England U21 international duty, where Ayinde had been part of a 3-1 victory during the break.

First Half Dominance

Rovers started brightly and created several chances early on. Ayinde tested Burton's defence within minutes of kick-off, shooting wide from the edge of the box after receiving a corner. He was involved again shortly after, bursting past defenders on the right flank before tumbling in the box — penalty shouts were waved away by referee Harrison Blair.

Burton threatened briefly when Matthew Dennis' shot rebounded off the post in the 10th minute. An injury to Jordan Thomas forced Rovers to make an early substitution, with Tom Nixon replacing him in his first league appearance of the season.

Rovers continued to press forward. Tom Nixon's shot was saved after receiving the ball from Ayinde, and Neill Byrne headed wide from a George Broadbent free-kick. Despite the constant pressure, clear-cut chances remained limited until the closing stages of the half.

The breakthrough came on the stroke of half-time. Rovers countered quickly, with Alfie May pushing forward down the middle before laying the ball out wide to Ayinde. The winger's finish gave Rovers a 1-0 lead heading into the interval.

Second Half Resistance

Rovers began the second half with similar intensity. Ayinde picked up where he left off, setting up May, but the forward was adjudged offside. Minutes later, Ayinde sent a through ball to Robbie Gotts, whose shot was saved.

Ayinde came close to a second goal in the 57th minute when a misplaced Burton back pass gifted him an opportunity, but he stretched just inches too far to connect. May tested Burton's goalkeeper with a half-volley that rattled the crossbar two minutes later.

Burton pressed harder as the match progressed. Isaac Hutchinson came on for Brandon Hanlan with 15 minutes remaining, and substitute Gbemi Arubi curled an attempt wide of Tommy Simkin's goal. Caylan Vickers skied a shot over the bar, while Harvey Araujo's header in the 85th minute skimmed the post.

Ayinde was substituted to a standing ovation in the 80th minute, replaced by Hakeeb Adelakun. Rovers held firm against late Burton pressure to secure the three points. Attendance at the match was 7,400, with 413 travelling supporters from Burton.
