Doncaster Rovers Football Club has completed the purchase of Cantley Park training ground from City of Doncaster Council. The facility serves as the training base for Doncaster Rovers, Doncaster Rovers Academy and Doncaster Rugby League.

The training ground site is now wholly owned by Doncaster Rovers Football Club and will be held on its balance sheet, strengthening the club's financial position. Investment already made in the facilities will continue.

Club statement

Gavin Baldwin, Chief Executive of Club Doncaster, said: "Owning the land at Cantley Park outright gives us the security to continue investing in the facilities where our players train every day. This is a significant step for Doncaster Rovers, the Academy and the Doncaster Rugby League and places the club on a stronger financial footing. We would like to thank City of Doncaster Council for their support in completing the purchase."

Council support

Cllr James Church, Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Public Health at City of Doncaster Council, said: "Following the completion of this purchase, I would like to thank everybody involved on both sides. Our best wishes go to the future success of Doncaster Rovers and the Rugby League, as we know what the success of our local sports teams means for the local community and for the health of the community, with sporting success often encouraging more youngsters to take up sports at their local clubs."

Cllr Church added: "Cantley Park training ground is a fantastic facility and will be a real asset to all the players who use it on a regular basis. This is a fantastic deal all round."
