Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann is preparing for an intense week of training ahead of the club's Carabao Cup match against Stockport County on Saturday 8 August at 3pm.
Rovers have completed their pre-season campaign and will travel to Edgeley Park for the fixture. McCann's nine new recruits have had time to settle at Club Doncaster Sports Village, and the manager expects fierce competition for starting places.
Competitive week ahead
McCann said: "I think the most pleasing thing is that the boys know there are places up for grabs. So it's going to be a really competitive and intense week on the training ground this week."
The manager expects players to push hard in training as they bid to secure selection for the trip to Stockport. He added: "Everyone will be wanting to play in that team next Saturday against Stockport, but as always, we'll pick a team that will give us the best chance to win."
Injury updates
McCann confirmed that defender Matty Pearson is expected to return to training this week. However, James Husband suffered an injury during Rovers' final pre-season game on Saturday. The extent of Husband's injury will become clearer later in the week.
