A free repair café, toy swap and upcycling event is coming to Cantley Community Centre on Friday 20 November.

Festive Fix will run from 10am to 1pm at the centre on Goodison Boulevard, Doncaster, DN4 6DF.

South Yorkshire Climate Alliance and the Repairing Communities Network are organising the event to encourage people to repair and reuse items rather than replace them.

Volunteers from local repair cafés will try to mend household items brought along by residents. Organisers also plan to offer free portable appliance testing for small household electrical items, including Christmas lights and electric blankets.

A repair or appliance test is not a guarantee of an item’s future safety. Volunteers will try to repair items but cannot promise that every item can be fixed.

Visitors can also take part in a free toy swap and activities making upcycled Christmas cards and decorations.

The project is supported by a grant from Electrical Safety First’s Electrical Safety Fund. Organisers are seeking volunteers with practical repair skills, as well as people to welcome visitors and help run events.
