Robbie Gotts was pleased to return to the starting line-up for Doncaster Rovers after recovering from a thigh injury, but frustration tempered his mood following Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Mansfield Town.
The midfielder set up Jack Senior's second-half equaliser but could not prevent Louis Reed from striking 15 minutes from time to hand the Stags victory on the opening day.
Gotts on His Comeback
Speaking after the match, Gotts said: "Obviously, I was pleased to be back on the pitch but it would have been a lot better had we come away with three points."
He added: "From a personal point of view, to start the game was very pleasing. It was frustrating to lose because I feel like we had a positive reaction after coming out for the second half, but we couldn't maintain it."
Reflecting on his assist, Gotts noted: "Something we spoke about at half time was the positions that we take up, so it was good to be in the right place to assist the goal, and Jack's finish was great."
Bailey's Record Run Continues
Gotts' return saw him partner with skipper Owen Bailey in midfield. Bailey equalled Bert Tindill's 75-year record of 139 consecutive league starts for Rovers.
Gotts praised his midfield partner, saying: "It shows what he is all about and credit to him, he deserves it. Last year, we formed a really good partnership and understanding of each other. I think he would do anything for me on the pitch and I am the exact same."
Barnsley Awaits
Rovers face Barnsley in the South Yorkshire derby at Club Doncaster Sports Village on Saturday 22 August, with a 3pm kick-off.
Gotts said: "It is a really exciting game to look forward to. We can learn from today, and I do not think we are a million miles away. We have a long season ahead of us and, as long as we can pick things up each week, I think it will stand us in good stead."
