Darren Robinson has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad following his performances for Doncaster Rovers. The midfielder said the honour of international selection means everything to him.
"I'm really proud. It's always an honour to be called up for your country and represent them. It's an honour every time, so I'm really happy to be selected once again," Robinson told Rovers+.
International Experience
Robinson has previous experience facing top-level opposition. He has played against Germany, Greece and England, and says Northern Ireland has recorded some strong results against major nations over the years.
Home Advantage
The squad will play two matches at home, which Robinson is looking forward to. "We've got two games at home, so I'd imagine most of my family will be able to come down the road and watch me and the lads. I'm really looking forward to it," he said.
Robinson will be joined in the Northern Ireland squad by fellow Rovers player Bayley McCann. The pair have known each other through Northern Ireland age-group teams from U17 level upwards and are close friends at Doncaster.
Youth Development at Rovers
Robinson highlighted the quality of young players at Doncaster Rovers and their development pathway. "I think we've got some really good young players here and it's nice to see them getting recognition from their countries for how well they've done for us. Long may it continue," he said.
The midfielder credited the senior professionals at the club as key to his improvement. "There are some great senior pros here that I can learn from, and all the other young lads can learn from them as well. It's just about coming in every day, making myself better and trying to get as many minutes as I can," Robinson explained.
International Targets
Northern Ireland will play three matches during the international window. Robinson's ambition is clear: "We've got three games, so I just want to get three positive results and finish as high in the group as we can. I'm really looking forward to it and I can't wait to go."
