Owen Bailey has signed a new three-year contract with Doncaster Rovers, committing his future to the club until 2029. Manager Grant McCann confirmed the deal, which includes the option of a further 12 months.
The 27-year-old midfielder has been a key figure at Rovers since arriving on a two-year deal in 2023. Bailey scored 15 goals in the league last season and was nominated for Sky Bet League One Player of the Season, as well as being named in Team of the Season.
From Promotion to League One Success
Bailey made an immediate impact after joining, contributing ten goals in the promotion-winning season that took Rovers into League One. His performances in the third tier earned him recognition at the end of the campaign.
Bailey was appointed club captain ahead of the 2025/26 season and thrived in the role under McCann's management. He will retain the captaincy into the new season.
Bailey and McCann's Vision
On signing the new deal, Bailey said: "I'm delighted to get it done and I'm really grateful for the club and for everyone involved in getting it done. The way the gaffer has spoken to me since I've come to the club has been unbelievable. It's a big thing for me to want to repay that and commit my future here and give everything when I go out on the pitch."
McCann said the contract was a reward for Bailey's performances. "He's been ever-present, he's the captain, he's the catalyst for what we did last season, the goals he scored," McCann said. "To offer him a new contract - we didn't need to do anything to be honest with you, but we wanted to give him the reward for how well he did last season."
Rovers' next fixture is a Carabao Cup trip to Stockport County, where Bailey will begin his new chapter as captain.
