A father and daughter from Doncaster have died after getting into trouble in the sea while visiting Cornwall. John Peter Collins, 66, and Samantha Adele Collins, 32, were pulled from the water at Fistral Beach, Newquay, on Sunday 26 July. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the deaths. The coroner has released the pair's names as inquests into their deaths are due to be opened at Cornwall Coroner's Court, sitting at Pydar House in Truro, on Tuesday.

Appeal for missing handbag

Police had previously appealed for the public's help in locating a handbag belonging to Samantha. The bag contained items of sentimental value to the family.

"At what is an incredibly difficult time for the family, they would take great comfort in being reunited with these belongings if possible," a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said.
